Hilda Rix Nicholas

Exhibition of artworks by Hilda Rix Nicholas (1884 - 1961), who forged her early career in France, including her atmospheric images of Morocco before returning to Australia and continuing her successful career with depictions of rural idylls of the Australian countryside and its people. Represented in national and regional galleries, as well as internationallly, the exhibition comprises paintings and works on paper from throughout her career, supported by materials such as costumes and photographs sourced from the Estate of the artist. Illustrated catalogue with essay by Dr Sarah Engledow, curator of the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in 2013, Paris to Monaro: Pleasures from the Studio of Hilda Rix Nicholas and an essay by conservator, Catherine Nunn exploring the artist’s techniques and materials in Morocco.
