Telling The Stories: From The Kimberley To Yirrkala
5 May 2012 - 16 July 2012
Telling the Stories – From the Kimberley to Yirrkala, is an exhibition of historical and affordable bark paintings by some of Australia’s foremost indigenous bark artists, as well as contemporary indigenous sculpture.
This remarkable exhibition spans the Kimberley and Arnhem land, stretching back to the late 1950s to now. It offers a unique snapshot of bark painting that has not been seen in a commercial Melbourne gallery since James Davidson exhibited his collection in the 1960s.
Including the famous Marika family of bark painters, this exhibition is not to be missed. This is a rare opportunity to see many unique and captivating barks paintings in one exhibition.
