Further Information
A pair of late 19th-century French demi-lune bedside cabinets, crafted from richly figured plum pudding mahogany and mounted with exquisite gilt bronze hooved feet. Their original seaweed green marble tops, a favourite material of Linke himself, sit above elegant foldaway table extensions hidden at the rear.
Each cabinet is fitted with three drawers and adorned with finely cast ormolu mounts, the quality of which speaks volumes.
Having studied Linke’s work for decades, we can say with confidence that these cabinets were produced in his workshop.
Not only do they display his trademark craftsmanship, but they also reflect his meticulous eye, he was known to personally select timber and marble from the finest merchants in Paris.
Born in 1855 in Bohemia, Linke established his Paris atelier in the Faubourg St. Antoine in the 1880s, later rising to fame for his revolutionary furniture at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.
There, he unveiled a new style, merging Rococo exuberance with Art Nouveau flair, an approach that captivated royalty and industrialists worldwide.
These cabinets embody that spirit: refined, technically brilliant, and entirely original
