Like the preceding piece, this work plays with scale and deals with the decorative potential of classic blue and white teacups and saucers. It also has a subtext of water scarcity. Taking its title from the section in Alice In Wonderland where Alice and the animals undertake a 'caucus race' to dry themselves after swimming in the pool of tears. Along with the Dodo, another familiar image in Bower's work, the form of the kangaroo taken from the prototypical 1700's painting by William Stubbs, also appears.
