Further Information

One of a limited series of hand-made wooden surfboards, created in collaboration with artist Peter Walker, Associate Professor of Furniture at Rhode Island School of Design in the USA. Its imagery, drawn from traditions of willow pattern, is mixed with vernacular and iconic Australian themes. As its name and the detail of its imagery suggest, the work has a subtext referencing our national unease about boarder security; the harbour and willow pattern fence becoming a divide, guarded by a lifesaver supported by the hat waving gesture of the boy drover from Tom Robert?s Breakaway, while far off towards the horizon, the ?Tampa?, Ashmore reef and a tiny detention centre can be seen. Finished in fiberglass, the board conforms to classic wooden surfboard structure and lines and is fully functional; at home in either a Boardroom or at Bondi.
