Biography
Fu Hong trained in China and continues his painting career in Melbourne, where he has lived since 1990. His works explore several themes, including still lifes and figurative works, with colourful paintings of flowers and contemplative nudes. His talent as a portrait painter is clearly evident, capturing his sitter in thoughtful and striking paintings. Fu Hong has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize in 2008, 2009, 2021 and 2022, including being selected for the Archie 100: A Century of the Archibald Prize (2021) with his portrait of Melbourne art dealer Joseph Brown. He has also been a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize on several occasions and won a highly commended award for the Darling Portrait Prize in 2022.
Fu Hong has held over 60 solo exhibitions internationally and has been represented by Jenny Pihan Fine Art (2003-2018). His work is represented in significant collections including The National Portrait Gallery, Canberra; Government House, Victoria; Supreme Court of Victoria; West Australia University; University of Newcastle; Stanthorp Regional Art Gallery, Bank of Japan; Safi Military Institute of Singapore and private collections around the world.
