AUSTRALIAN WOMEN ARTISTS: Between the Wars

Please watch the informative talk by Assoc. Prof. Alison Inglis here

In the period between the wars, Australian women artists were leading the way by challenging traditions and exploring new ideas in art with a focus on colour, form and design, and subjects such as urban culture.

A common experience of nearly all the women represented in the exhibition was travel, particularly to Paris or London, where the exposure to different artistic styles ultimately shaped each artist’s subsequent approach, exploring new ideas with a focus on colour, form and design.
